The actress shared her concerns after receiving backlash over remarks about structural problems affecting citizens, including the burden of double taxation and the challenges of accessing basic public services.

Yvonne had criticised a situation where citizens contribute financially through taxes but are still expected to provide essential infrastructure and services that should ordinarily come through public institutions.

“So after they work hard to earn and then pay their taxes, they should help the government to provide a better life for the masses. While the tax collected is meant for some family members,” she wrote.

She added that the situation had taken a toll on her emotionally.

“This country has stretched my mental health to its limits,” Yvonne said.

The actress later addressed the reactions to her comments, explaining that public figures who speak against social and political problems often face strong criticism from the same people they hope to support.

Thebacklash discussion highlights the difficulties celebrities and public figures face when engaging in conversations about sensitive national issues.

“The more I speak of the uncommon things I see happening in my country, the more people drag me. I see why people stay quiet in times of crisis,” she said.

Yvonne added that she had always believed in speaking up when she felt issues affecting people needed attention, but said the response from some members of the public had been discouraging.

“I wasn’t born to look the other way when humanity is being trampled upon,” she said.

Her comments have renewed conversations about the role of entertainers in social advocacy and the challenges that come with using public platforms to discuss governance, accountability and citizens’ welfare.
