Adekunle Gold wrote song for Beyoncé during a deeply emotional period in his life, revealing that grief fuelled the creation of one of his most heartfelt tracks.

The Nigerian singer and songwriter shared this revelation while discussing his upcoming album. According to him, he was contacted by Beyoncé’s team in 2019 to contribute to one of her album projects.

However, he was dealing with overwhelming grief at the time and struggled to focus on music.

“At the time, I was too consumed by grief to even think about music,” he said. “But one day I forced myself back into the studio. Out of that pain, I wrote Simile.”

Adekunle Gold wrote song for Beyoncé but the track remained unreleased for years — until 2024, when his long-time collaborator, Michael, played it during a studio session. That moment, he said, reminded him of the strength he found through faith and resilience.

“It reminded me that even in my deepest loss, I was not alone. I had God to lean on,” he added. “Grief isn’t just about losing a parent.

It can be the loss of a person, a friendship, a dream, or even a version of yourself. Whatever it is, you don’t have to carry it alone.”

The track Simile, now officially released, has taken on a new meaning for fans, standing as a powerful testimony of healing through creativity.
