Nigeria Police probe viral video of Angela Okorie jogging with armed escort, sparking public criticism and disciplinary review of involved officers
Angela Okorie police escort has triggered an official investigation by the Nigeria Police Force following the emergence of a viral video showing the actress jogging while accompanied by armed officers.
The footage has stirred public criticism, with many questioning the professional conduct of the police personnel involved.
The Force, in a statement released on its official X handle on Wednesday, described the officers’ behaviour as inconsistent with expected standards.
Signed by Force Public Relations Officer Olumuyiwa Adejobi, the statement reaffirmed the commitment of the police to uphold discipline and public trust.
“The Nigeria Police Force strongly frowns at the conduct of armed police officers seen in a viral video trailing actress Angela Okorie while she jogged—an act considered clearly inconsistent with the professional standards and decorum expected of personnel of the Force,” the statement read.
The video, which surfaced online earlier this week, showed Okorie being flanked by uniformed officers as she jogged in what many presumed was a public area.
The scene has raised concerns about the use of security resources, especially if the event was not official.
Although the footage appears to be linked to a production shoot for her upcoming film Queen of Guns, the Force has stated that such conduct remains unacceptable whether staged or not.
Officers must be reminded that their primary duty is service to the people, not participation in frivolous displays that undermine public confidence.
“While it remains unclear whether the scene was part of a scripted production, the conduct of the officers seen in the video falls short of the standards expected of members of the Nigeria Police Force,” Adejobi noted.
The police also confirmed that internal procedures are underway to identify the officers involved.
Necessary administrative processes have been initiated to determine the circumstances surrounding the video, and appropriate disciplinary action will be taken based on the outcome of the review,” the statement continued.
Angela Okorie, who began teasing Queen of Guns nearly two months ago on Instagram, has not responded to the controversy.
However, checks show the scene may have been from behind the scenes of the film. In a caption for the earlier clip, she wrote, “Day 1: Lights camera action! Queen of Guns is ready to blow away your mind. Are you ready?”
Despite that context, the Nigeria Police have made it clear that they intend to maintain the integrity of the force. “
Officers must be reminded that their primary duty is service to the people, not participation in frivolous displays that undermine public confidence,” Adejobi added.
