The 23-year-old singer, who has been a resident for less than two months, told a recent video interview that the city’s energy and vibrant African diaspora made the transition seamless.

“New York reminds me so much of Lagos. So it feels like home. There are a lot of Nigerians here. There’s a huge African diaspora here, so it feels like home,” she said, highlighting the familiarity and cultural rhythm she finds in the city.

Ayra Starr’s relocation comes as she seeks to strengthen her global presence following international recognition and multiple award nominations, including the 2026 Grammy Awards.
