BBNaija Abi opens up about family neglect, saying she was denied university and private-school opportunities given to her siblings
Big Brother Naija Season 11 housemate Abi has opened up about what she described as years of painful family neglect, saying she was treated differently from her siblings while growing up.
Abi made the emotional disclosure on Wednesday, August 13, 2026, during a conversation with fellow housemate Oyin in the BBNaija house, where she reflected on her strained family relationships and missed educational opportunities.
The reality star said she was the fourth of five children, with three older sisters and a younger brother, but claimed she was the only sibling who experienced the treatment she described.
“I was neglected by my family, so I’m not too close to them. In their own eyes, they didn’t see anything wrong in it,” Abi said.
She recalled that her siblings were able to attend university, but when it was her turn, her parents allegedly told her there was no money.
“Honestly, it’s only me. While all of them went to the university, when it got to my turn, my parents said there was no money,” she said.
Abi said her parents also told her that she was too stubborn and that they had withdrawn their support.
She said the experience became even more difficult when her parents later denied making the remarks.
“When I reminded them later, they said they never said that. Then I asked them, why didn’t I go to the university then?” she recounted.
The BBNaija housemate also recalled feeling overlooked during her secondary school years.
According to Abi, she wanted to attend a private school because she considered herself academically gifted, but her parents said they could not afford the fees.
She said the situation became particularly painful when her younger brother was later sent to a private school.
“They did the same thing in my secondary school. I wanted to go to a private school because I am so smart and they said they didn’t have the money. But guess who they later took to the private school? My younger brother,” Abi said.
The experience, she admitted, still troubles her.
“The thing vexes me. Don’t justify that,” she added.
Abi further recalled an excursion from her childhood, saying she only attended because her mother did not want her younger brother to travel alone.
“The one time I ever went for excursion was because my mother didn’t want my younger brother to go alone, so she said I should join him. Is this fair?” she asked.
Her account offered a glimpse into the personal experiences behind her complicated relationship with her family.
“There’s a lot. My story is too deep,” Abi said.
