Bolanle Ninalowo Makes Bold Move To Prioritize Family

Bolanle Ninalowo opens up about Nollywood’s casting culture and why stepping away from acting to focus on his children is his most important role yet

Bolanle Ninalowo, a well-known face in Nollywood, is stepping away from the screen—not because of burnout or fading opportunities, but because of something far more personal: family.

In a recent interview, the actor got candid about why he’s shifting focus from stardom to fatherhood, and why he believes it’s the most powerful decision he’s ever made.

“My kids are going to college now—my daughter is 19, and my son is 17. This is the most important age. They need me to be fully present,” he shared.

The actor explained that while he once chased every script and appeared in nearly every film, his priorities have evolved. With his children entering adulthood, he believes his real legacy lies not in film credits, but in being a supportive, available father.

“Thank God I made hay while the sun shone,” he said. “But now, what’s more important is being there for my kids. My legacy is not the films I’ve made—my legacy is my children.”

Beyond family, Bolanle Ninalowo also weighed in on the state of Nollywood’s audition practices.

The actor revealed that he hasn’t auditioned in Nigeria in years and believes that producers should already know the actors they want for lead roles.

“If you have to audition for a lead role, something’s wrong. Filmmakers should have a vision—and backups—ready,” he said, noting that minor roles may require auditions, but lead roles should be cast with intention.

His decision to focus on guiding his teenage children through critical life transitions is being praised as both powerful and inspiring.
