Burna Boy and Asake MTV VMA nominations are setting the pace for African representation at the MTV Video Music Awards 2025, with both artists securing two nominations each, making them the most-nominated African acts this year.

Burna Boy earned nods for “Higher” in the Video For Good category and “Tatata” featuring Travis Scott in Best Afrobeats.

Meanwhile, Asake landed two nominations in Best Afrobeats for “Active” featuring Travis Scott and “Get It Right” with Tems.

Other African stars were also recognized:

Tems, Rema, Moliy, Wizkid, and Tyla each secured a nomination in Best Afrobeats.
Ayra Starr stood out in the MTV PUSH Performance of the Year category for “Last Heartbreak Song.”

American superstar Lady Gaga leads all artists globally with 12 nominations, including Best Artist, Song of the Year, and Video of the Year.

The 2025 MTV VMAs are set to take place on September 7 at the USB Arena in New York, and fans worldwide are already buzzing about the strong presence of Afrobeats in the international spotlight.
