Nigerian singer Chike discusses a church experience that influenced his faith, explaining why he stepped back from church without losing belief in God

Nigerian singer Chike Ezekpeazu Osebuka, popularly known as Chike, has revealed how a personal experience in church influenced his view on religion. The revelation came during a recent interview with VJ Adams.

Chike recounted a moment when a woman he had previously been romantically involved with led a praise and worship session in church.

He described feeling uncomfortable due to their past, though he emphasised he did not judge the situation.

“The chick that was leading the praise and worship, we had history. And I couldn’t… I’m like… I was having flashbacks. And she was kabashing, and I’m like… who’s that,” Chike stated.

He further explained that this incident contributed to his decision to leave the church, but clarified that it did not diminish his belief in God.

“Not because I don’t believe in God, because I do. So I don’t… Church is not for me. There are things that I like, that I would not be able to do.

You just need to do right. By the people. Not necessarily leave a certain… Look, since I’m Christian, not certainly live a Christian life,” Chike added.

The singer’s candid reflections highlight the personal nature of faith and the distinction between belief in God and participation in organised religious institutions.
