In a video shared online, Asuquo described the Grammys as exploiting Nigerian talent to boost the US economy.

“I think Grammy is using Nigerians to boost the GDP of Los Angeles. It’s like a carrot dangling in front of us, and it goes away,” he said, adding a humorous yet pointed critique of the international award body.

Asuquo urged stakeholders to prioritise the growth of local award platforms, emphasising the need for recognition that originates from within Nigeria.

He drew parallels to American sports culture, noting the Super Bowl as an example of a homegrown event that successfully commands global attention.

“It’s only America that will do the Super Bowl and be playing it themselves,” he remarked, underscoring the importance of creating platforms that celebrate local talent while attracting international engagement.
