Dangote Group Phyna sister tragedy has left Nigerians in shock, as the company officially confirmed the death of Ruth Otabor, younger sister of Big Brother Naija Season 7 winner, Phyna, following a devastating road accident involving one of its trucks.

In a solemn statement released on its X (formerly Twitter) handle on Sunday, the Dangote Group described Ruth’s passing as “deeply saddening” and extended heartfelt condolences to the grieving Otabor family.

Ruth, a fresh graduate of Auchi Polytechnic, sustained severe injuries on August 13 after being hit by a Dangote truck in Auchi, Edo State, leaving her with a crushed leg.

Despite undergoing emergency amputation and weeks of intensive care, Ruth tragically lost her life.

“Since the accident, our officials and insurance partners have been by her side, covering all financial and medical costs and supporting her family,” the company noted in the statement.

The company revealed that arrangements had been made to fly Ruth to India for advanced medical treatment.

Her condition had recently improved enough for international travel, pending final medical clearance.

“Sadly, despite these efforts and Ruth’s brave fight to live, we lost her today,” the statement read.

In response to public criticism and earlier outcry from Phyna herself—who accused the company of delayed intervention—the Dangote Group emphasized its ongoing support since day one of the incident.

The statement reiterated the Group’s core values of safety, accountability, and compassion, pledging to continue improving its operational safety and offering support during tragic moments.

“We remain committed to strengthening our safety systems and supporting those affected in moments of tragedy. May God grant her mercy and eternal rest,” it added.
