Nollywood actress Dayo Amusa has urged actors in the Nigerian film industry to take greater responsibility for promoting movies they feature in, saying publicity is an important part of building successful careers.

Amusa shared the advice while addressing members of the Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN), stressing that an actor’s contribution to a film should continue beyond the final day of shooting.

The actress said delivering a strong performance is only one stage of filmmaking, adding that audiences must first know about a project before they can support it.

According to Amusa, actors whose names and images appear on movie posters should actively participate in publicity campaigns rather than leaving promotion solely to producers and marketers.

“When your face is on the poster, your voice must be on the promotion. You are not doing the producer a favour. You are investing in yourself,” she said.

The actress explained that consistent promotion can help strengthen an actor’s personal brand, improve visibility and create more professional opportunities within the entertainment industry.

Amusa also noted that actors have a direct connection with audiences and that their support can contribute significantly to the commercial performance of a film.

“Your single post can fill cinemas and push a film to number one on streaming. You are the most powerful marketing tool the film has,” she added.

Beyond individual benefits, the actress said stronger promotional efforts would contribute to the continued growth and global recognition of Nollywood.

She encouraged actors to support their projects through social media posts, interviews, premieres and other publicity activities during official promotional periods.

Her comments have generated conversations among industry stakeholders about the shared responsibility of filmmakers, actors and production teams in ensuring that Nigerian films reach wider audiences.
