The Federal Government and AWS Academy have launched a nationwide digital skills training for Nigerian students and lecturers, focusing on cloud computing, AI, and machine learning, with free AWS certification

The Federal Government of Nigeria, in partnership with Amazon Web Services (AWS) Academy, has launched a free digital skills training programme for students and lecturers in Nigerian tertiary institutions.

The initiative is a major step toward bridging the digital skills gap in Nigeria and aligns with the Renewed Hope Agenda and the Nigeria Education Sector Renewal Initiative (NESRI).

The training programme will equip participants with globally in-demand skills in cloud computing, artificial intelligence (AI), machine learning, and cybersecurity, positioning Nigeria’s youth and academic workforce for success in a rapidly evolving tech economy.

Who Can Apply for the Digital Skills Training in Nigeria?

Eligible participants include:

  • Students in Nigerian universities, polytechnics, and colleges of education
  • Academic staff, including lecturers and instructors
  • Institutional leaders (vice-chancellors, provosts, rectors)
  • Applicants with an interest or background in digital innovation

Programme Features

  • Mode of Delivery: Online via AWS Academy platforms
  • Coverage: Nationwide (federal, state, and private tertiary institutions)
  • Language: English
  • Certification: Fully sponsored—50% by FG, 50% by AWS
  • Coordinator Oversight: Heads of institutions must nominate coordinators
