Held from October 3 to 5, the three-day event made history as Africa’s first-ever all-electric powerboat racing competition, blending sustainability, technology, and entertainment in an unforgettable spectacle.

Music lit up the lagoon, with top performances by:

  • Adekunle Gold, who opened the tournament on October 3 with hits from his new album Fuji at the LASWA Boat Jetty – Five Cowries Terminal.
  • Fireboy DML, Shoday, and Lojay, who kept the momentum going with crowd-pleasing performances.
  • Tiwa Savage, the “Number One African Bad Gyal,” who brought the house down on closing night with a dazzling set that had guests singing along.

The energy was undeniable, transforming waterfront venues into live concert spaces where sports and music fused seamlessly.

The competition saw nine international teams take to the waters, including:

  • Team Alula – backed by LeBron James
  • Team Blue Rising
  • Team Brady – owned by NFL legend Tom Brady
  • Team Drogba – helmed by Didier Drogba
  • Team Rafa – led by tennis icon Rafael Nadal
  • Team Miami, Team Aoki, and more

But it was Team Brazil, powered by the Claure Group, that emerged victorious, lifting the E1 Lagos GP trophy after an exhilarating final race.

Attendees, especially the youth, were captivated by the mix of sport and culture.
Taiwo Elegbede, a 23-year-old student, shared:

“I’m not a sports person, but I came for the vibe — and I don’t regret it. The music, the energy… I now know what Christmas in Lagos will feel like.”

The event was also supported by the Lagos State Government and major corporate sponsors, including FirstBank of Nigeria.

Yinka Ijabiyi, Acting Group Head, Marketing & Corporate Communications at FirstBank, explained their vision:

“E1 Lagos GP aligns with our mission to drive creative culture and sustainable innovation. It’s not just about boats or music — it’s about placing Lagos on the global map of forward-thinking entertainment and green technology.”

Ijabiyi added that the bank was committed to transforming the Lagos coastline into a world-class eco-tourism and entertainment hub.

The E1 Lagos GP wasn’t just another sporting event — it was a statement of intent:
That Africa, and Nigeria in particular, is ready to host world-class events that blend sustainability, entertainment, and innovation.
