Justice B. O. Quadiri, who presided over the case, also gave the convicted woman an option of a ₦25 million fine. The sentencing followed her conviction on five separate drug-related offences.

Identified as Owoeye Tobi, 29, the Osun State native was arrested by officers of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) in February 2025. The arrest led to her trial in case number FHC/B/16c/2025.

At the time of her arrest, NDLEA agents found 168.1 grams of various narcotics in her possession.

These included 161 grams of cannabis sativa, 0.2 grams of heroin, 0.7 grams of cocaine, 2.4 grams of Tramadol capsules and 3.8 grams of methamphetamine.

Justice Quadiri sentenced her to two years for each of the five counts, allowing the fines as an alternative punishment—₦5 million per count.

Reacting to the ruling, NDLEA Edo State Commander Mitchell Ofoyeju praised the judgment as firm and timely.

“Those who aim to harm society must not escape punishment. The knowledge that the punishment is not only certain but also appropriate will deter drug dealers,” he said.

He described drug trafficking as a grave offence, citing its harmful effects on individuals, families, and communities. According to him, such rulings send a powerful message to others engaged in or considering the illegal drug trade.

“This ruling is a very positive and admirable development,” Ofoyeju added. “To fight the drug problem, we will keep collaborating with the judiciary, law enforcement, and community organisations.”

He also urged members of the public to report suspicious drug activity, reaffirming the NDLEA’s commitment to halting the spread of narcotics across Edo and beyond.
