The renowned Nigerian singer, whose real name is Chinedu Okoli, shared the revealing story during an appearance on the ‘In My Opinion’ podcast.

According to Flavour, the moment occurred while he was performing live, only to be asked to leave the stage upon the arrival of the iconic music duo, Peter and Paul Okoye, known collectively as PSquare.

As the pair launched into their hit single Temptation, the crowd erupted with excitement, leaving Flavour both stunned and introspective.

He recalled how the performance exposed a crucial gap in his artistic development.

Although already a gifted vocalist and instrumentalist, Flavour realised he lacked a distinct sound and the ability to connect with an audience through original music.

That experience, he said, was a wake-up call.

The difference is they create their own music… and that’s how it’s done, and you are just a music man.

“I was playing and immediately P-Square came in, the manager said ‘Hello, get off that thing!’ I switched off and passed the microphone, went somewhere and sat down,” he said.

“Paul of P-Square took the microphone and just sang ‘This na temptation,’ everywhere scattered. I was so cold. I was just watching.”

Flavour said the encounter left him questioning his path and pushing him to find his own musical identity.

It marked the beginning of a journey that would eventually lead to his breakout hit Ada Ada and solidify his place among Nigeria’s most influential music stars.

He admitted the transition was far from easy.

While he could already sing and play several instruments, creating an original sound from scratch was an entirely new challenge.

Yet that night’s lesson, taught by simply watching PSquare take the stage, became the foundation for his evolution into a true recording artist.
