Folarin Odunlami, aka Fola, apologises after his Lagos concert was halted due to overcrowding and safety concerns at Balmoral Event Centre

Folarin Odunlami, the 2025 Afrobeats breakout singer known as Fola, has apologised to fans after his headline performance at the Mainland Block Party abruptly ended on Monday, December 15, at the Balmoral Event Centre, Victoria Island, Lagos.

The show was halted following safety concerns after the venue reportedly exceeded its approved capacity.

The event, attended by a large influx of fans, became overcrowded, leading organisers to stop the performance.

Several ticket holders reported being unable to access the venue despite purchasing tickets, while others cited poor crowd management.

Fola performed briefly before leaving the stage and later addressed fans on X (formerly Twitter).

“My people, I’m really sorry about how last night went,” he said, acknowledging the disappointment.

“People were hurt and that should never happen. I had to stop the show because safety comes before anything else.”

The singer added that fans’ concerns had been noted and reassured them that corrective measures were underway.

Dangbana Republik, Fola’s record label, also issued a statement confirming lapses in planning and crowd control.

“We acknowledge the serious safety issues that occurred at the event organised by Mainland Block Party. The venue capacity was exceeded, resulting in unsafe conditions that should never have happened,” it said.

The label emphasised that the performance was stopped immediately to protect fans and that discussions with organisers were ongoing to address the situation.

The Mainland Block Party organisers had not issued a separate statement as of the time of filing this report.
