The gospel Afro-fusion singer, known for his contemporary take on faith-inspired music, had a memorable encounter with Pastor E.A. Adeboye, General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), and his wife, Folu Adeboye, at a religious event held in the UK.

The meeting comes weeks after Pastor Adeboye gave his tacit approval to the singer’s music by allowing the RCCG convention choir to perform Gaise Baba’s version of the classic hymn “I Have Decided to Follow Jesus” during the church’s 73rd annual convention.

On Sunday, 21 September 2025, Gaise Baba shared photos from the UK event, showing him kneeling before the revered cleric and his wife — a traditional gesture of reverence and honour.

One touching image captured the moment Folu Adeboye laid hands on the singer’s head in prayer, a blessing that Gaise Baba described as deeply affirming.

He captioned the moment with heartfelt conviction:
“Follow God; e get why. Afrogospel – God is in this!”

The artist took the blessing as a sign of divine endorsement for his genre, which merges traditional gospel messages with modern Afrobeat rhythms — a fusion not without controversy.

Despite the endorsement from RCCG leadership, Gaise Baba has faced criticism from conservative circles. Pastor Kesiena Esiri of The Remnant Christian Network in Warri, Delta State, condemned the artistic approach, arguing that sacred hymns should not be “watered down” for cultural appeal.

Esiri suggested that the original hymn, which inspired Gaise Baba’s No Turning Back featuring Lawrence Oyor, was born out of martyrdom and should be treated with reverence, not innovation.

Nevertheless, the singer has stood by his vision for Afrogospel, believing it to be a powerful way to reach today’s generation without compromising the message of Christ.
