Amid public outrage, a man identified on social media as @poetclem shared a personal experience involving a colleague who was bitten by a deadly snake at work.

The man revealed that the anti-venom required to save his colleague’s life cost ₦300,000, sparking conversations about the affordability of life-saving treatment.

“My colleague got bitten by a snake at work last month. The anti-venom alone we had to buy cost 300k,” he said, adding that they had to urgently raise the funds to ensure the colleague received treatment. He confirmed that the colleague survived.

The man also reflected on Ifunanya’s tragic death, suggesting that immediate access to anti-venom could have altered the outcome.

“This isn’t even about the money. If Nanya had seen the anti-venom, I’m sure 300k wouldn’t have been a problem,” he wrote.

Social media users expressed mixed reactions to the story. Some lamented the high cost of anti-venom, while others highlighted systemic issues in healthcare access.

One user noted, “At least managed to get it. The price is high but what price do you place on a life.” Another questioned why healthcare workers on duty should rely on colleagues for life-saving treatment.

Other Nigerians shared similar personal experiences. A student recounted being bitten in 2025 and paying ₦180,000 for anti-venom available at the University of Nigeria, Nsukka medical centre.
