J. Cole Ends Eight-Year Wait With New Album

J. Cole releases his seventh studio album, ‘The Fall Off’, eight years after first announcing it, featuring no guest appearances

American rapper J. Cole has officially released his long-awaited seventh studio album, The Fall Off, marking the end of an eight-year journey and maintaining his signature no-feature streak.

The Dreamville artist unveiled the double album, spanning 24 tracks across two discs, along with two bonus songs. The project is executive produced by Cole alongside Ibrahim Hamad, T-Minus, and the Dreamville production team.

Released through Dreamville and Interscope Records, it represents his most expansive work to date in both scale and ambition.

Cole first teased the project in 2018 on the closing track of KOD, “1985 (Intro to ‘The Fall Off’),” and hinted at its progress in subsequent years.

While fans endured false starts and delays, Cole released Off-Season in 2021 and the D-Day, a Gangsta Grillz mixtape in 2022, followed by the introspective Might Delete Later in 2024. Each release paved the way for the finalised album, which Cole announced last month.

The rapper revealed that some verses on The Fall Off were written when he was 19, adding emotional depth to the project.

Cole confirmed the album was intended as a double release and his final studio project, completing a conceptual arc that began with his debut album.

Notably, The Fall Off contains no guest appearances, allowing Cole to present an unbroken personal narrative.

Fans are left with a pure J. Cole experience, underscoring the album’s intended closure and the artist’s evolution over nearly a decade.
