Joeboy’s secret marriage plan has surprised fans as the singer says he could marry early and keep his wedding and family life private

Nigerian music star Joseph Akinwale Akinfenwa-Donus, popularly known as Joeboy, has revealed his secret marriage plan during an interview with Madame Joyce, saying on Thursday, September 3, 2026, that he would prefer to marry relatively early but keep the wedding and his family life away from public attention.

The Afrobeats singer said he likes the idea of marrying in his 20s and reaching his 40s with teenage children, describing the prospect as appealing if the marriage is built around genuine love.

Joeboy explained that marriage should not be determined solely by age or social expectations. Instead, he said people should consider whether they have found someone they genuinely love and whether the relationship feels right.

“I would rather get married early. But if I get married right now, nobody is going to know,” Joeboy said.

The singer added that he could remain married for years before fans discovered that he had started a family.

“Maybe when I have like three kids, people will now find out that Joeboy has a whole family somewhere,” he said.

Joeboy’s secret marriage plan comes as a striking contrast to the public nature of celebrity relationships, weddings and family announcements, particularly within Nigeria’s entertainment industry.

The singer’s comments also followed his reference to actor Timini Egbuson, whom Joeboy described as having an image associated with being a playboy. Joeboy said he was intrigued by Egbuson’s reported wish that he had married earlier.

According to Joeboy, hearing such an opinion from someone with that public image made him reconsider the potential benefits of marrying young.

He stressed, however, that early marriage is not automatically the right choice for everyone.

“Marriage is not really about whenever it feels cool. If it just feels right to you and you love the person, do it,” he said.

For Joeboy, the most important consideration appears to be finding the right partner rather than simply meeting a particular age target.

His comments have offered fans a rare glimpse into how the singer views relationships and family life, while making clear that any future marriage could be deliberately shielded from the spotlight.
