Kaffy On Single Mother Stereotypes: “I’m Still Worthy”

Kaffy on single mother stereotypes: The dancer speaks out against dating bias, says divorced women can be better partners if they’ve worked on themselves

Kaffy on single mother stereotypes is sparking important conversations after the Nigerian dancer and choreographer opened up about the societal bias she faces as a divorced woman and mother of two.

Speaking during a recent episode of The Honest Bunch podcast, Kafayat Oluwatoyin Shafau, popularly known as Kaffy, revealed how potential partners often dismiss her outright due to her marital history and motherhood status.

“I have had somebody tell me because I’m a single mother he can’t even think of dating me because I have two children,” she said.

Kaffy, who divorced her ex-husband Joseph Ameh in 2022, stressed that being a single mother doesn’t make her less desirable—and may even make her a stronger candidate for a healthy relationship.

“What makes you think that a woman that has been divorced is not even the better candidate if she had worked on herself?” she asked.

The dancer pointed out the hypocrisy in society’s expectations, especially when it comes to marriage.

She questioned why many singles reject divorced women, even as data shows a high failure rate in modern marriages.

“Why are people insisting on marrying someone ‘fresh’? But both of you are going into the same data that over 70% of marriages crash,” she noted.

Kaffy believes labels and stereotypes contribute to unhealthy marriages and dating choices, as people often overlook substance for status.

Kaffy, who shares two children with her ex-husband, emphasized that motherhood should not be a disqualifier for love or partnership.

Instead, she urged society to look deeper at character, healing, and self-work.

“There’s no guarantee two ‘single’ people today won’t be divorced tomorrow,” she added.

Known for her fearless approach to life and art, Kaffy continues to break barriers—not just on stage, but off it. Her powerful message is resonating with many Nigerian women who feel unseen due to similar societal pressures.

Kaffy on Single Mother Stereotypes reminds us that worth isn’t defined by past relationships—but by resilience, growth, and self-awareness.
