Kate Henshaw surrogacy concerns have sparked fresh debate as the veteran actress warned about the exploitation of financially vulnerable women in Nigeria.

Speaking in a recent interview on News Central, Henshaw called for stronger legal frameworks to govern surrogacy arrangements.
She emphasised the emotional and physical risks that surrogates face, saying the process must be handled with compassion, responsibility, and legal oversight.
“Surrogacy is a means to exploit people who are not financially capable. You just pay them as they have a child for you,” she said. “But are you bound under any laws to ensure their well-being before and after childbirth?”
The actress stressed that surrogacy offers hope for people unable to conceive naturally, especially those with medical complications.

However, she warned against trivialising the practice, noting the deep emotional, mental, and physical toll it takes on women.
“There are lots of emotions attached to carrying a child,” she added. “Women go through so much — they can even die in the process. It shouldn’t be taken lightly.”
Henshaw concluded by urging lawmakers to move beyond mere suggestions and pass enforceable laws that genuinely protect surrogates and intended parents alike.
