American media personality Kim Kardashian has revealed why she shortened her name from Kimberly to Kim in 2007.

The reality TV star made the disclosure during an interview with Time, ahead of her widely watched show Keeping Up With the Kardashians.

Kardashian explained that her birth name, Kimberly Kardashian, felt “too long for people to say,” prompting the modification.

“I used to always go by Kimberly, until we signed on to do the reality show. And when I looked at my chyron, Kimberly Kardashian, I said, ‘I think that’s so long for people to say.’ And like, ‘Let’s just shorten it to Kim,’” she said.

Despite the official change, Kardashian admitted she still struggles to adjust fully.

She noted that friends from her school years, as well as family members, continue to call her Kimberly.

“It’s so weird, because all my friends from high school and growing up, and my dad, everyone calls me Kimberly,” she added.
