The streaming platform revealed that the film, released in 2025, became its most watched movie of all time, prompting strong demand from audiences for a continuation of the story.

Co-directors Maggie Kang and Chris Appelhans expressed pride in the film’s reception and hinted that the sequel would expand the vibrant universe created in the original production.

“I feel immense pride as a Korean filmmaker that the audience wants more from this Korean story and our Korean characters,” Kang said. “There’s so much more to this world we have built and I’m excited to show you. This is only the beginning.”

The KPop Demon Hunters Sequel is expected to build on the film’s unique blend of action, fantasy and Korean pop culture that helped the animation gain widespread popularity.

Singer Ejae, who provided the singing voice for the character Rumi and co-wrote the film’s breakout song Golden, also shared hopes that the follow-up project will showcase more of Korea’s cultural and musical diversity.

“It depends on what they create and hopefully we can show more sides of Korea,” Ejae told BBC. “There’s so many different kinds of music in Korea, so that’s what I’m hoping for personally.”

The singer added that the overwhelming response to the film has been difficult to fully process.
