Mo Bimpe marriage faces online scrutiny after a viral video with Jide Awobona, prompting the actress to defend her relationship with Lateef Adedimeji
Nollywood actress Adebimpe Oyebade Adedimeji, popularly known as Mo Bimpe, has defended her marriage to actor and filmmaker Lateef Adedimeji after a brief interaction with fellow actor Jide Awobona at a movie premiere in Lagos sparked online speculation on Sunday, September 6, 2026.
The discussion followed a short video recorded at the September 2 premiere of A Mama Deola Wedding Story.
The footage showed Mo Bimpe seated between Awobona and Lateef Adedimeji while sharing something on her phone with Awobona.
Some social media users interpreted the interaction as uncomfortable and began debating whether the moment crossed acceptable boundaries within a marriage.
Others argued that the clip was too brief to support such conclusions and pointed to Awobona’s friendship with the couple.
Responding to the growing conversation, Mo Bimpe said she was surprised that an ordinary exchange between friends had become a subject of intense public analysis.
“A one minute clip of myself & Jide has somehow become a topic of public analysis,” she wrote.
The actress maintained that relationships do not all operate according to the same rules, stressing that trust and confidence can be as important as boundaries.
“Not every marriage is built on fear, insecurity, and constant monitoring. Some marriages are built on trust, friendship, respect, and confidence,” she said.
Mo Bimpe also challenged the assumptions behind some of the reactions, suggesting that viewers may have been judging her relationship through the lens of their own experiences.
“The fact that so many of you found that interaction strange says more about the relationships you’re used to than it does about mine,” she said.
The actress was particularly clear about her husband’s position, describing Lateef Adedimeji as a secure man who understands her friendships within the entertainment industry.
“My husband is a secure man; a brief conversation with a family friend does not threaten our marriage or require anyone’s concern,” she said.
Mo Bimpe and Lateef Adedimeji have been married since December 2021 and have remained one of the more closely followed couples in Nollywood.
Their relationship has previously attracted public attention, including scrutiny over their journey to parenthood.
In May 2026, the couple welcomed triplet sons after years of waiting. Lateef later reflected on the criticism and painful comments they faced before becoming parents, describing the experience as a difficult period that eventually became a testimony for their family.
The latest controversy again demonstrates how quickly a few seconds of footage involving public figures can become a powerful talking point online, particularly when marriage and celebrity friendships are involved.
For Mo Bimpe, however, the viral moment was not evidence of marital tension. Her response was instead a firm defence of a relationship she said is grounded in mutual confidence, friendship and trust.
