NFVCB Launches Training to Boost Nigerian Filmmakers’ Skills

NFVCB launches filmmakers training to improve skills, regulatory knowledge, and international competitiveness in the Nigerian film industry

The National Film and Video Censors Board (NFVCB) has inaugurated a capacity-building programme designed to equip Nigerian filmmakers with modern technical skills, regulatory knowledge, and global industry practices.

Shaibu Husseini, Executive Director of the NFVCB, officially opened the training on Wednesday, reaffirming the Board’s commitment to strengthening professionalism and international competitiveness in Nollywood.

The multi-day programme brings together producers, directors, and other key film practitioners from across Nigeria.

Danlami Pau, NFVCB Lagos Zonal Officer, emphasised the importance of continuous professional development, noting that participants will learn about content classification, ethical storytelling, production standards, and modern distribution strategies.

“This training is part of our broader mandate to strengthen the industry by promoting professionalism, safeguarding cultural values, and ensuring Nigerian content meets both local and international expectations,” Pau said.

Seyi Jakande, Chairman of Odi-Olowo/Ojuwoye Local Council Development Area, commended the organisers and encouraged young filmmakers to maximise the opportunity to build sustainable careers.

Seun Oloketuyi, CEO of the Best of Nollywood (BON) Awards, also thanked the council chairman for sponsoring the initiative.

The NFVCB, operating under the Federal Ministry of Art, Culture, Tourism, and Creative Economy, is responsible for classifying films, regulating distribution, and ensuring compliance with national standards under the NFVCB Act.
