Nigerian Guild of Editors ANEC 2025 set for Abuja in November

Nigerian Guild of Editors ANEC 2025 will hold in Abuja from Nov 3–6. The conference focuses on democracy, national cohesion and the role of media professionals.

ANEC 2025 is set to hold in the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, from 3 to 6 November 2025, gathering over 500 media professionals from within and outside Nigeria for critical conversations on governance, media integrity and national cohesion.

In a joint statement released on Sunday by NGE President Eze Anaba and General Secretary Onuoha Ukeh, the Guild confirmed that the President of Nigeria, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, will officially declare the event open.

Themed “Democratic Governance and National Cohesion: The Role of Editors”, this year’s All Nigeria Editors Conference (ANEC) aims to explore how editorial leadership can foster national unity, promote democratic values, and hold power to account.

A key sub-theme, “Electoral Integrity and Trust Deficit: What Nigerians Expect in 2027”, will set the tone for discussions ahead of the next general election cycle.

The Guild said this year’s conference will go beyond speeches to tackle real-world challenges facing the media industry, including misinformation, artificial intelligence, declining trust in journalism, and economic instability.

Among the high-profile speakers and guests expected are the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, state governors, foreign diplomats, and leaders from the private sector.

Other paper presentations scheduled during the conference include:

“Election Disputes and Judicial Integrity: Navigating the Thin Line Between Law and Politics”
“The State of the Nation: Imperative of Economic and Political Reforms in a Challenged Nation”
“The Evolving Face of Journalism: Battling Misinformation, AI Disruption, and the Credibility Gap”
“Media, Terrorism, and National Security: Addressing the Complexities”
“Wealth Beyond the Newsroom: Investment Opportunities for Editors After Call of Duty”

The Guild said that **the conference will promote shared values, inclusivity, dialogue and understanding, especially critical at a time when Nigeria faces complex socio-economic pressures.

Speaking on the significance of the event, the Guild emphasised:

“The ANEC holds every year for editors to address and discuss national issues that have social, economic and political consequences. This year’s edition is designed to provide a platform for responsible and responsive journalism, to promote national development and to hold leadership accountable.”

The Abuja gathering will mark the second time in 12 years that the ANEC is being hosted in the FCT, following the biennial convention in Enugu earlier this year, where new NGE executives were elected.
