Veteran Nigerian comedian and actor Okechukwu Onyegbule, popularly known as Okey Bakassi, and his wife, Ezinne, celebrated their 25th wedding anniversary on Tuesday, September 1, 2026, with the actor reflecting on their journey from meeting in Port Harcourt in 1988 to building a family together.
Okey Bakassi marked the milestone by sharing a video collage featuring himself, his wife and their three children, alongside a heartfelt account of their relationship.
The actor revealed that the couple first met in 1988 and gradually became friends after exchanging several love letters.
Their relationship was later interrupted when they pursued higher education, taking them in different directions before they eventually reunited.
The couple married on September 1, 2001, in Port Harcourt, the city where they had first met and fallen in love.
“We met in 1988, a few love letters later we became friends. The pursuit of higher education pulled us apart, but destiny brought us back together,” Okey wrote.
He described the past 25 years as a journey sustained by family, faith and resilience amid the changing circumstances of life.
“God has blessed us with three lovely young adults, kept us in good health and has seen us through a turbulent world that is always changing,” he said.
The veteran entertainer said the anniversary was not about competing with other couples or setting records.
Instead, Okey said the celebration was an opportunity for the couple to appreciate the decision they made 25 years ago and the values that have sustained their marriage.
“We are not chasing records or trying to prove people wrong. We are just living our lives and showing ourselves that we made the right decision…in love, trust, faith and humility,” he said.
The actor also used the occasion to publicly appreciate his wife for the role she has played throughout their marriage.
Addressing Ezinne affectionately as “Zizi”, Okey thanked her for her love, sacrifices, support and belief in him over the years.
“Zizi, my darling wife, thanks for saying YES 25yrs ago…thanks for believing, thanks for staying, thanks for helping me find direction, thanks for your sacrifices,” he wrote.
The couple’s three children were also featured in the anniversary video, giving the celebration a distinctly family-centred feel.
