Nollywood actress Omoni Oboli has released her movie The First Lady on YouTube in honour of her late colleague Alex Ekubo, with all proceeds going directly to his family following his burial on 18 June 2026

Nollywood actress and filmmaker Omoni Oboli has paid a touching tribute to her late colleague Alex Ekubo by releasing her movie The First Lady on her YouTube channel, with all proceeds donated to the deceased actor’s family.

The gesture comes a day after Alex Ekubo was laid to rest on 18 June 2026 in Arochukwu, Abia State, following an emotional wake-keep attended by several industry colleagues including Ini Edo, IK Ogbonna, Mike Godson and Ayo Makun.

In a heartfelt Instagram post, Omoni Oboli expressed gratitude to God for a successful burial ceremony and announced the special screening.

“We’ve laid our bestie Alexx to rest in the glory of God. Thank you, Jesus!” she wrote.

 

“In his memory and to honour his legacy, I am releasing our movie THE FIRST LADY on Omoni Oboli TV on YouTube by 5pm. The proceeds will go to the family, so please help us share widely.”

She added a warm farewell to her departed friend: “Alexx Ekubo! You came, you saw! You conquered! You are forever in our hearts, bestie. Love you forever.”

Omoni Oboli noted that the tribute video was recorded earlier in the day before she attended the funeral, describing the occasion as both beautiful and deeply painful.

The kind gesture has been widely praised within the Nollywood community as a meaningful way to support Ekubo’s family while celebrating his legacy.
