Rybeena Reveals Why He Won’t Raise Children in Nigeria

Rybeena explains why he and wife Kidbaby do not want to raise children in Nigeria, citing economic pressures, living conditions and social concerns

Nigerian singer Rybeena and his wife, content creator and actress Kidbaby, have decided against raising their future children in Nigeria, with the singer citing economic pressures, living conditions and the wider social environment as major concerns.

Rybeena disclosed the couple’s position during an appearance on the Wahala Podcast, where he spoke candidly about parenthood and the circumstances he believes could affect children growing up in the country.

The singer said his personal experiences have significantly influenced his outlook on raising a family.

He argued that Nigeria remains behind several other countries in terms of development despite the wealth possessed by some of its citizens.

“Because of my experience and the way the country is, we are far behind among other countries even though we have most richest people in Africa,” Rybeena said.

His concern, however, extends beyond the economy. Rybeena said the general mentality and environment children encounter while growing up are also important considerations for him and Kidbaby.

“Our economy and everything. So us having a child here is messed up for real,” he said.

The remarks offer a glimpse into the couple’s thinking about parenthood at a time when many Nigerian families are grappling with rising living costs and difficult economic conditions.

Rybeena’s comments also touch on the broader question of where Nigerians choose to raise their children.

For some families, better healthcare, education, security and economic opportunities abroad can influence decisions about relocation and family life. Others remain committed to raising their children in Nigeria despite those challenges.

The singer’s position has attracted mixed reactions online, with some social media users expressing sympathy for his concerns while others criticised his decision and questioned whether young Nigerians should focus more on improving conditions at home.

One commenter argued that leaving Nigeria does not address the challenges facing the country, while another dismissed the singer’s concerns and encouraged him to make whatever choice he believes is best for his family.

The debate reflects a familiar tension within Nigeria’s increasingly globalised society.

While international relocation can offer families access to different opportunities and social systems, leaving the country is also a deeply personal decision involving finances, identity, family support and long-term plans.

For Rybeena and Kidbaby, the question appears to be particularly personal. Their decision is rooted in how they perceive the environment in which their children would grow, rather than simply where the couple would prefer to live.

Rybeena’s comments have therefore reignited discussion about Nigeria’s economic realities, the aspirations of younger Nigerians and the difficult choices families face when deciding what kind of future they want for their children.
