Nearly two years after Mohbad’s untimely demise in September 2023, Sam Larry has broken his silence in a sit-down interview with social media activist VeryDarkMan.

A short video showing the promoter confronting Mohbad at a beach had gone viral and stirred speculation that Sam Larry played a role in the artist’s reported harassment and eventual death. But Sam Larry has now addressed the claims, offering his version of the incident.

“That video was just 9 seconds. I was with my son at the beach. When I saw Mohbad, I walked up to him and demanded my money for a show he didn’t show up for. Zlatan was there and quickly stepped in to resolve it. There was no assault,” he said.

He clarified that the video, which had been used to frame him as a possible aggressor, captured a misunderstanding over a financial disagreement. According to him, Mohbad had failed to attend a paid performance, which led to the confrontation caught on camera.

Sam Larry also touched on the silence of rapper Zlatan Ibile, who was present during the beach incident. He alleged that Zlatan refused to comment publicly out of fear for his safety. “Zlatan say if hin talk, say blood go comot for hin mouth,” he claimed.

As public scrutiny continues, the show promoter revealed he was not even in Nigeria when Mohbad died. He said he was in Dubai, while his associate, Naira Marley, was in Amsterdam, further asserting that they could not have been physically involved in the tragedy.

The controversy surrounding Mohbad’s death has gripped Nigeria’s entertainment scene, leading to accusations, court proceedings, and a national outcry for justice.

While a court recently cleared both Naira Marley and Sam Larry of direct involvement, public suspicion has not entirely faded.
