Analyst Blessing Akinlosotu urges NCC, NBC to sanction creators amid Seyi Tinubu–VeryDarkMan controversy

Public affairs analyst and activist, Blessing Akinlosotu, has called on the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) and the Nigerian Broadcasting Commission (NBC) to closely monitor and sanction social media content creators to curb abuse and misinformation.

Akinlosotu made the call on Tuesday while reacting to the controversy involving Seyi Tinubu, social commentator Martins Otse, popularly known as VeryDarkMan (VDM), and content creator Mitchel Mukoro, also known as King Mitchy.

DAILY POST reports that VeryDarkMan had alleged that Seyi Tinubu and King Mitchy threatened his life following his comments on a reported ₦100 million donation.

Seyi Tinubu, however, dismissed the allegation in a detailed statement released over the weekend.

The controversy further escalated after a report claimed that King Mitchy allegedly attempted to take her own life, adding another layer of tension to the ongoing feud.

Reacting to the situation, Akinlosotu described the public spat as unnecessary and criticised VeryDarkMan for dragging Seyi Tinubu into the matter.

She also condemned the alleged attempt by King Mitchy to take her life, stressing the need for regulatory oversight.

“I call on the Nigeria Communication Commission and the Nigerian Broadcasting Commission, alongside other regulatory agencies, to start paying closer and more serious attention to content being generated and churned out daily by creators across the federation,” she said.

According to her, strong sanctions are required to deter future abuses, adding that some offenders must be sanctioned decisively to serve as a warning to others.

Akinlosotu warned that unchecked digital content could fuel misinformation, incitement, and personal harm, urging regulators to act proactively in safeguarding public discourse.
