Sheggz confirms the Bella breakup, says they separated in January 2026 and denies cheating or abuse allegations
Nigerian reality TV star Segun Daniel Olusemo, popularly known as Sheggz, confirmed in Lagos on Wednesday, August 19, 2026, that his relationship with fellow Big Brother Naija star Bella Okagbue ended in January 2026, while denying allegations that he cheated on or abused her.
Sheggz addressed the breakup in a lengthy statement after months of speculation about the status of the relationship. He said he had previously chosen not to discuss his private life publicly because of his respect for his family.
The reality star said he now felt compelled to speak because he believed his name and character were being unfairly questioned.
“I am not an abuser. For clarity, I did not cheat on Bella and I have been single since January 2026,” Sheggz said.
Sheggz said the relationship officially ended in January, although the former couple attempted to reconcile afterwards.
He said concerns surrounding trust and respect eventually convinced him that continuing towards marriage was no longer appropriate.
“We made attempts to reconcile afterwards but ultimately I came to the conclusion that there were issues of trust and respect that I could not overlook when considering marriage,” he said.
The statement comes after weeks of renewed public interest in the couple.
In May, reports of a possible split intensified after fans noticed that Sheggz and Bella had unfollowed each other on Instagram and that some photographs of the pair had disappeared from Bella’s social media account.
At the time, Sheggz did not directly confirm that the relationship had ended. Instead, he shared a message about loyalty and discipline amid the online discussion.
The latest statement provides the clearest account yet from Sheggz about what happened, although Bella has not publicly responded to the claims contained in his statement.
Pulse reported that Bella remained silent after Sheggz disclosed that he had bought a proposal ring before the relationship ended.
Sheggz also revealed that much of 2025 was personally difficult because he spent considerable time in and out of hospital.
“Much of 2025 was an extremely difficult period for me as I spent a significant amount of time in and out of hospital,” he said, adding that he was grateful to be alive after the experience.
The couple met during the 2022 edition of Big Brother Naija, where their romance became one of the show’s most closely followed relationships.
Their relationship continued after leaving the house and developed a sizeable fanbase popularly known as “Shella”.
Their relationship appeared stable as recently as February 2025.
During an interview with Pulse, the couple discussed their approach to privacy and marriage, with Sheggz saying marriage was a personal matter that he preferred to handle privately. Bella said they had learnt to manage public attention and “blur out the noise”.
The pair had also previously faced breakup speculation. In January 2024, Sheggz dismissed reports of a separation, saying at the time that he and Bella were still together.
The latest disclosure therefore marks a significant change from the couple’s earlier public position and brings an end to months of uncertainty surrounding their relationship.
Sheggz said he did not want the separation to become a prolonged public dispute and expressed respect for Bella and her family.
“I believe a marriage should be built on mutual respect, honesty and the ability to communicate with one another properly,” he said.
For now, Sheggz has made clear that the relationship is over, while Bella has yet to offer a public account of the circumstances surrounding the separation.
