Spyro criticises the music industry for prioritising profit over meaningful messages, urging artists to restore music’s intrinsic value and impact

Afrobeats singer Spyro has raised concerns about the state of the music industry, claiming it has lost its intrinsic value and is contributing to societal decadence.

Speaking on the Adesope Live show, he reflected on past artists, saying they “passed meaningful messages” that evoked emotions, whereas much of today’s music focuses on superficial vibes and profit.

“In as much as vibes are cool, I feel like music has lost its intrinsic value. Back then, you would get goosebumps listening to music. A lot of the decadence that we have in the society today can be traced to the fact that music has lost its value. We are now just singing for money. A lot of us are into the business for money, not to make impact,” he stated.

Spyro urged contemporary artists to reclaim music’s power by infusing values and meaningful messages into their songs, aiming to make a positive impact rather than just chasing commercial success.
