The occasion marked the premiere of his debut stand-up special, Sunny Messiah: Paternity Leave, which was filmed for historic documentation.
The show, brimming with sharp, intelligent humour and delivered in Sunny Messiah’s trademark articulate English, took audiences on a journey through fatherhood, marriage, family chaos, and modern Nigerian adulthood.
The performance elicited continuous laughter, knowing nods, and roaring applause from fans, media partners, cultural influencers, and industry insiders.
In his remarks, Sunny Messiah described the special as a personal narrative. “Paternity Leave is my story—the story of love, stress, joy, and the tiny madness that comes with raising a family.
I wanted to bring those moments to life in a way people could relate to, no matter their background.
And if someone laughed hard enough to find healing, hope, or even the courage to step into marriage or parenthood, then I’m grateful. That’s the power of laughter,” he said.
The event also showcased emerging comedic talents including ChimeFrancis, Iykomo, Dexmond, Funny Urch, Saint Envi, and AkanLaff.
Musical highlights included a bass solo from HenryFretz and a performance by P’Madox.
Ebuka Mic anchored the evening with seamless energy, while a surprise appearance by Senator added another memorable moment to the night.
The special was made possible through support from Atorj Technology Limited, Sew Smooth Clothing Limited, Martinz Nnaji Jr’s Film Kitchen, Tetrarch Nigeria Limited, Ivon Melda, PixxelColors Agency, Eventual Entertainment, and Reel Fruits, reflecting the growing synergy between Nigerian comedy and the broader creative economy.
