Terra Academy for the Arts’ TALP X showcase delivers an electrifying mix of theatre, music, and activism, proving itself a powerful platform for rising Nigerian creatives.
The curtains may have fallen, but the echoes of Terra Academy for the Arts TALP X still ring loud.
Held on Saturday, July 19 at Terra Kulture, Lagos, the quarterly creative showcase once again delivered on its promise — a dynamic blend of theatre, music, and pointed social commentary.
From 2 PM to 5 PM, the audience was taken on a powerful emotional journey as four original productions took center stage, written and performed by trainees of TAFTA (Terra Academy for the Arts).
Each piece reflected depth, energy, and creative courage, positioning TALP X as a standout platform for emerging talent in Nigeria’s creative space.
Highlights included:
Gbas Gbos – A hilarious family drama that unpacked the chaos following a domestic dispute.
The performance fused humor with social critique, encouraging reflection on gender roles and communication in Nigerian households.
You Say!– A feel-good hybrid of live music and stand-up comedy that had the crowd laughing, clapping, and vibing to every beat. Its relatable delivery made it an instant crowd favorite.
Endgame– This emotionally raw piece tackled the devastating impact of toxic relationships. Audiences were visibly moved by its depth and realism.
Jigida – A powerful socio-political narrative that spotlighted female resistance in a patriarchal society. Its haunting conclusion stirred conversations on empowerment and solidarity.
I learnt a lot. I was entertained, it was educative and I will do it again. Shout out to TAFTA and BAP.
Bamike Olawunmi-Adenibuyan, TAFTA Brand Ambassador
Mr. JO Umoibom**, TAFTA’s Academy Lead, emphasized the showcase’s purpose:
“At Terra Academy for the Arts (TAFTA), we give participants the chance to apply their training on Nigeria’s biggest stage. From learning to live performance, it’s a full-circle journey of creative growth.”
Founded by renowned theatre and film director Bolanle Austen-Peters, TAFTA offers free world-class training in scriptwriting, lighting design, sound, animation, art business, and more blending digital and physical learning models to build the next generation of Nigerian creatives.
TALP (TAFTA Action Learning Project) represents the final project for graduating trainees, encouraging collaborative production and real-world application of learned skills.
The July edition, produced in partnership with the Mastercard Foundation, was a sold-out success — celebrating bold African storytelling, and creative freedom.
As the audience exited the venue buzzing with energy, it became clear: TALP X isn’t just theatre.
It’s the future of African performance art fearless, vibrant, and unapologetically real.
