The veteran Afrobeats star, whose real name is Gabriel Oche Amanyi, has called on Nigerians to show greater appreciation for industry pioneers, regardless of whether they remain chart-toppers or not.

In a series of emotional posts on his official X handle, the self-styled “Akpako Master” expressed disappointment at the tendency of fans to dismiss older musicians as irrelevant.

He argued that while global audiences in countries like the United States celebrate their legends with continued respect, Nigerians are quick to cast aside their own.

“I hear people say, ‘Your time don pass!’—and it sounds like brain damage,” Terry G wrote. “In the West, legends are respected for life. No one calls Jay-Z or Beyoncé outdated. Their impact is honoured.”

“That’s why we believe our ancestors were evil, while Western ancestors are seen as gods,” he continued.

Terry G’s comments have sparked reactions across social media, with many fans and fellow musicians echoing his concerns about how Nigerian trailblazers are remembered.
