“I Was the Chaos People Judged” – Tonto Dikeh Reveals Drug Struggle, Offers Hope to Addicts

Nollywood actress Tonto Dikeh on Monday shared a deeply personal account of her past struggles with drug addiction, urging the public to show compassion and continue praying for individuals battling substance abuse.

Tonto Dikeh reflects on her drug addiction experience  was posted on her official Instagram page, where the actress reflected on what she described as a painful period of chaos, judgement, and self-destruction in her life.

Tonto said she does not believe addicts should be hated, stressing that addiction is often a symptom of deeper emotional wounds rather than a defining identity.

“Hate the drugs. Hate the addiction. But don’t ever stop praying for the one stuck in it,” she wrote.

“Behind that chaos is a soul that’s hurting, lost, and desperate for a way out.”

The actress admitted that during her lowest moments she was widely judged and misunderstood, adding that many people only saw her outward behaviour without recognising the emotional pain behind it.

“I was once the chaos that people judged. The noise. The mess. The broken decisions,” she said.

She explained that her struggles were rooted in unresolved pain, describing addiction as an escape mechanism rather than a lifestyle choice.

“Drugs weren’t the problem; they were the symptom. Addiction wasn’t my identity; it was my escape from pain I didn’t know how to name,” she added.

In her message, Tonto Dikeh credited her recovery to faith, stating that what appeared as despair to the public was, in her words, a moment of divine intervention and personal transformation.

She said she believes her life serves as evidence that recovery and restoration are possible, regardless of how severe one’s situation may appear.

“God heard the cries I couldn’t articulate. When people saw chaos, Heaven saw a wounded soul worth rescuing,” she wrote.

The actress also encouraged continued prayers for individuals struggling with addiction, stressing that support and empathy can play a crucial role in recovery.

“Never stop praying. Somebody’s life depends on it,” she added.
