FG Hails Toyin Abraham as ‘Oversabi Aunty’ Hits N1bn Milestone

The Federal Government has praised Toyin Abraham after Oversabi Aunty reached N1bn at Nigerian cinemas, calling it a boost for the creative economy

The Federal Government of Nigeria has celebrated actress and filmmaker Toyin Abraham following the box office success of her latest film, Oversabi Aunty, which has grossed N1 billion in Nigerian cinemas.

The milestone was recorded on Monday, weeks after the film was released nationwide on December 19, 2025, according to industry figures monitored across cinema chains.

Reacting to the development, the Nigeria Film Corporation described the achievement as a powerful indicator of growth within the country’s creative sector.

In a statement issued by the Corporation and shared by its Managing Director, Ali Nuhu, the Federal Government said the success of Oversabi Aunty underscored the rising commercial strength of Nigeria’s film industry.

“This achievement places Ms. Abraham in the prestigious league of filmmakers whose works have not only connected culturally with audiences but have also demonstrated strong commercial viability in an increasingly competitive cinema market,” the statement said.

Ali Nuhu added that the Toyin Abraham N1bn movie reflected the value of culturally grounded storytelling supported by strategic production and marketing.

“Oversabi Aunty is a clear example of how locally rooted stories, when properly produced and strategically marketed, can achieve extraordinary reach and impact,” he said.

The Corporation further noted that the film’s performance highlighted a growing cinema-going culture and a deeper understanding of audience preferences across the country.

Also reacting to the landmark, Toyin Abraham expressed gratitude to her supporters in a message shared on Instagram, thanking fans and cinema audiences for their unwavering support.
