US Visa Birth Tourism Warning Issued To Nigerian Applicants

US Visa Birth Tourism Warning: US Mission in Nigeria warns that applicants seeking entry to give birth for citizenship purposes will be denied visas

US Visa Birth Tourism Warning has been issued by the United States Mission in Nigeria, targeting applicants intending to enter the U.S. primarily to give birth and secure citizenship for their child.

The embassy made the warning public in a post shared on X (formerly Twitter) via its official handle @USinNigeria on Monday.

It stated that consular officers will deny visa applications if they believe the applicant’s key purpose is childbirth on U.S. soil.

“Using your visa to travel for the primary purpose of giving birth in the United States so that your child will have U.S. citizenship is not permitted,” the post read, with the hashtags #VisaWiseTravelSmart and #USVisa.

An accompanying graphic reinforced the policy: “We will deny your visa if we believe your primary purpose of travel is to give birth in the United States.”

This strong stance is part of a broader public awareness effort by the U.S. to discourage visa misuse, particularly birth tourism, which remains a controversial immigration issue globally.
