Uzor Arukwe’s Manager Admits Frustration With Roles

Uzor Arukwe’s manager admits sharing fans’ frustration with his frequent “igbotic” roles, explaining why business decisions shape projects

The manager of Nollywood actor Uzor Arukwe, Mautin Tairu, has admitted that he has sometimes shared fans’ frustration with the actor’s frequent “igbotic” roles, explaining that business considerations often take priority over personal preferences.

Tairu, popularly known as Mr M, made the remarks while responding to an X user, R. Ekpedeme, who called for Arukwe to take a break from playing characters known for their loud and exaggerated mannerisms.

“I need a break from the shouting,” the fan wrote, suggesting that the actor should step away from such roles for a while.

Responding to the criticism, Tairu acknowledged that he had felt similarly at certain points but said the decisions made by the actor’s team were influenced by commercial considerations.

“As his manager, I’ve felt the same too at some point. However, business decisions take precedence over my personal preferences,” he said.

He explained that the character type appeared more frequently in Arukwe’s YouTube projects, where audience preferences played a significant role in determining the content produced.

According to Tairu, the actor’s cinema projects did not feature the same repetitive characterisation, suggesting that his performances varied according to the platform and the demands of each production.

He added that the team adopted different strategies for different platforms to meet audience expectations.

The comments have highlighted the balance actors and their management teams must strike between creative variety, audience feedback and the commercial demands of the entertainment industry.
