VeryDarkMan Warns Nigerians Against Unverified Land Deals

Nigerian social media activist VeryDarkMan has urged Nigerians to exercise caution when buying land, warning that some property sellers allegedly advertise plots without having the necessary ownership documents.

He particularly cautioned prospective buyers in Lagos and Abuja against making hasty decisions based on real estate flyers and advertisements, stressing the importance of verifying property details before making payments.

In a statement, the activist warned buyers about the potential risks of dealing with certain real estate operators.

“If you live especially in Abuja or Lagos and see these people sharing real estate flyers, do not buy land from them. They have put a lot of people in land-related problems, and some of them don’t even have the land documents,” he said.

VeryDarkMan added that land disputes featured prominently among the cases discussed at an event he attended the previous day.

He linked the cases to alleged fraudulent property transactions and disagreements over land ownership.

He also claimed that some operators resort to moving around with security personnel after allegedly defrauding buyers, raising concerns about the challenges victims may encounter when seeking to recover their money or pursue justice.

The activist advised prospective landowners to establish that a seller has the legal authority to transfer the property before paying any money.

His warning highlights the risks associated with relying solely on promotional materials or verbal assurances when purchasing land, particularly in areas where property transactions can involve competing ownership claims.

Prospective buyers are generally advised to have relevant documents reviewed by a qualified property lawyer and confirm ownership and title status through the appropriate land registry or relevant government authority.

Independent checks can help identify discrepancies in ownership records and reduce the risk of disputes after a purchase.

VeryDarkMan’s comments prompted discussions about the longstanding problem of land disputes and alleged property fraud in Nigeria.

One social media user noted that land acquisition requires careful consideration, warning that disputes can have serious consequences for buyers and other parties involved.

Another commenter made political remarks about land-related practices in Lagos and Abuja. The comment reflected the user’s opinion and did not independently establish wrongdoing by any individual or administration.
