Ayra Starr’s Starrgirl Makes Strong Billboard Debut

Ayra Starr Starrgirl debuts at No. 4 on Billboard World Albums, extending the Nigerian singer’s growing international chart presence

Nigerian singer Oyinkansola Sarah Aderibigbe, professionally known as Ayra Starr, has secured a strong early chart result with her third studio album Starrgirl, which debuted at No. 4 on Billboard’s World Albums chart for the week dated 29 August 2026.

The album arrived on 14 August through Mavin Records and Republic Records, less than a fortnight before the chart update.

Starrgirl entered the ranking behind three K-pop releases: Stray Kids’ DO IT at No. 1, CORTIS’ GREENHOUSE at No. 2 and ATEEZ’s GOLDEN HOUR : Part.4 at No. 3. South African singer Tyla’s We Wanna Party completed the top five.

Billboard’s World Albums chart measures the most popular world music albums in the United States through a blend of traditional album sales and streaming-equivalent units.

For Ayra Starr the No. 4 position marks a notable opening for a project that mixes Afrobeats, R&B and pop.

The 16-track album features collaborations with Wizkid on “Gimme Dat”, Rema on “Who’s Dat Girl”, ZAYN on “Heaven Baby”, Leon Thomas on “Pressure”, British singer kwn on “Amazing” and Danny Ocean on a remix of “Hot Body”. Theodora also appears. At just over 46 minutes the record moves between different moods rather than settling on a single formula.

Starrgirl follows Ayra Starr’s 2024 album The Year I Turned 21 and builds on the international profile she has developed since her 2021 debut 19 & Dangerous.

Universal Music notes that she has accumulated more than seven billion global streams and one billion YouTube views.

Beyond the Billboard ranking the album reached No. 8 on the UK Official Hip Hop and R&B Albums chart and No. 27 on the Official Album Downloads chart in the week beginning 27 August.

The release was supported by earlier singles including “Tornado”, “Hot Body” and “Where Do We Go”, the last of which had already passed 1.3 billion streams worldwide.

Ayra Starr also performed on NPR’s Tiny Desk Concert series and The Jennifer Hudson Show in the months leading up to the album.

The early chart performance places Starrgirl within the wider rise of Afrobeats and African artists on major international rankings.

Nigerian performers have steadily expanded from regional success into global streaming, collaborations and touring circuits.

While the No. 4 debut offers an encouraging start, longer-term results will depend on sustained listener engagement in the weeks ahead.

For now Starrgirl has given Ayra Starr a clear top-five entrance on one of Billboard’s key world music charts and further extended the reach of her music.
