Daddy Adeboye Defends Pastoral Spending, sharing he sold a limousine to buy motorcycles for pastors amid online criticism

Enoch Adejare Adeboye, General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), has defended his approach to pastoral welfare, revealing that he once sold a limousine he received as a gift to buy motorcycles for his pastors.

The statement was made during a church thanksgiving service in Lagos on Thursday, February 6, 2026.

Adeboye, popularly known as Daddy Adeboye, spoke in response to critics who allege that clergy pursue wealth at the expense of congregants.

He recounted his personal experience, noting that he had previously received three Mercedes-Benz vehicles but could not use them due to financial constraints in his early ministry years.

He described a late-night delivery of a limousine at around 2 a.m., explaining that the giver feared he might change his mind by morning.

Instead of keeping the car, Adeboye sold it and used the proceeds to purchase motorcycles for his fellow pastors, demonstrating a commitment to clerical support rather than personal luxury.

The cleric further recalled the early days of his ministry when he often had less than two naira in his pocket, emphasising the sacrifices made to serve in the ministry.

“There were days I had no money, yet I continued because my calling was greater than personal comfort,” he said.

The remarks, however, drew mixed reactions online. Some social media users argued that Adeboye’s wealth is intrinsically linked to his clerical position.

Others acknowledged his point, recognising that pastors often redistribute gifts received from church members to support ministry work.
