Was Ifunanya’s Snakebite Spiritual?

Chinenye Annah, descendant of snakebite healers, comments on Ifunanya Nwangene’s fatal snakebite, questioning spiritual and traditional factors

Following the tragic death of fast-rising singer Ifunanya “Nanyah” Nwangene from a snakebite, a Nigerian woman, Chinenye Annah, has shared her perspective on the incident, sparking reactions online.

Chinenye is a descendant of a family of snakebite healers and recounted unusual encounters with snakes that shaped her spiritual understanding.

In a Facebook post, Chinenye expressed sadness over the singer’s death and reflected on how two snakes allegedly entered Nanyah’s room unnoticed, raising questions about whether the incident had spiritual undertones.

She explained that while she cannot confirm the event was spiritual, her family’s history includes strange occurrences with snakes often linked to messages or spiritual signs.

“I know some people do not believe in spiritual things, but this picture of a snake that is attached in this post was a snake I killed last year in our house… This was not the first or second in a week. But we kept killing it until this last one I took it outside and snapped, that was the seventh time because I was not understanding how a snake enters somebody’s house without us knowing when it was coming.”

Chinenye further noted that her grandfather specialized in treating snakebites, but after his passing, no one continued the practice. She suggested that access to traditional treatment might have made a difference in Nanyah’s case.

Reactions to her post were mixed, with some readers attributing spiritual significance to the incident:
