Skales backs Fave as the singer highlights the challenges and double standards female artistes face in Nigeria’s music industry

Nigerian singer Skales has backed fellow artiste Fave over her comments about the challenges facing women in Nigeria’s music industry, saying female entertainers deserve recognition for navigating a difficult environment.

Skales shared his support on X on Thursday, 17 September 2026, after Fave argued that women often face additional barriers when trying to establish themselves in the music business.

“Big up all the females in the entertainment industry … it ain’t easy being a woman in this industry … big up to y’all for real,” Skales wrote.

Fave had earlier spoken about the different standards applied to female and male artistes, arguing that women are often judged not only on their music but also on their appearance and perceived femininity.

She pointed to the emergence of artistes such as Tems, Ayra Starr and herself as part of a shift away from some of the expectations previously placed on female singers.

“When Tems, I and Ayra Starr came into the scene, we came with different voices that were different from the very feminine voice people were used to,” Fave said.
